Lostock AC celebrate success of six-miler

AFTER an absence during the pandemic, the Lostock Six had its 39th outing last weekend in near perfect race conditions.

The famous event - a fixture in Lostock AC's race calendar - is an annual six-mile race road race starting and finishing in the club's namesake village.

This year saw a full field compete and at just before 10am they headed to the start line to join in the warm up with Mel the Motivator.

Perfect weather conditions saw first male runner, Harry Wakefield, from Salford Harriers, finish in an impressive 29mins 59secs.

Second was Leigh Harriers runner, Neil Pendlebury (31:01), swiftly followed by Ben Coop of Bury AC (31:38).

It was not long before the ladies also started to cross the line and first to finish in a fantastic 35:30 was Leigh Harriers runner, Leah Penelope.

Penelope was swiftly followed by fellow club runner Dee Allen (35:34). Heather Brown, from Bolton Harriers, was third lady in a very respectable (36:32).

Prestwich AC celebrated taking the first male team place, while Penelope and Allen helped seal first female team victory for Leigh Harriers.

Not only did Burnden Road Runners take the prize for the largest group online entry, but Philip Glassbrook helped them take most senior finisher in the vet 75 category, finishing in an outstanding 57:04.

The club were delighted with the race success and thanked all competitors and marshals who made it an enjoyable day.
